Introduction of the euro in Slovenia

Euro By acceding to the EU, Slovenia also committed itself to adopting the European currency - the euro. In order to adopt the euro, an EU Member State had to meet certain conditions called convergence or Maastricht criteria.

After two years of participation in the mechanism, the euro became Slovenia's legal tender on 1 January 2007.

The introduction of the euro in Slovenia brings the following consequences.

Euro banknotes and coins

Euro banknotes are the same in all euro area countries.

Euro coins have a common side and a national side.

Slovene euro coins
